What Is An Extender, You Get It At The Orthodontist. ?

Ok i am getting top braces and an extender. What the heck is an extender? I have an underbite. I had a retainer before but apparently they’re different. Ok is an extender removeable? Please respond asap!!

  1. The only “extender” that I am aware of is a palate extender. (Your palate is the roof of your mouth.) This is used to lengthen the distance between your teeth by making the roof of your mouth “wider”. Once it is placed, every few days, you will “turn” a key either 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. (Your dentist will explain his exact instructions when you have it placed.)
    All of the palate extenders that I am aware of are NOT removable. They are placed in your mouth just like braces are……and then are removed by the dentist when the appropiate response has been reached.
