  1. Usually your dentist will refer you to an Orthodontist if your teeth need to be straightened or if their not growing in properly. I believe dental health is as important as any other medical field. Ask someone with an infected tooth. Having reoccurring infections of your teeth can also make your general health deteriorate. Being a Orthodontist takes a lot of education but the pay is really good. Usually higher than a general Dentist.

  2. You hit the nail on the head when you say no one likes to smell an ugly mouth. Anyone who would want to spend all day, day after day smelling that stink, must have some sort of masochistic personality disorder.
Its great when a person wants to help someone have a better smile. But what are the comparative advantages and disadvantages you must weigh in your decision making processes: smelling the stink in peoples all day, day after day, for the rest of your life, or feeling good about helping people with their smile (which is most often temporary because sooner or later most people lose their teeth).

  3. These people would do this because they want to help people get a better smile. Also, they would so that they can feel good about helping people overcome their fears of the orthodontist or dentist. The mouth thing is not aalways that bad though.

  4. no

  5. Everyone has different interests and learns different things. I can’t imagine being a plumber, but my plumber actually seems to love it. I can’t imagine being a dentist or orthodontist, but my dentist seems to love it.
    We’re all different!

  6. that’s easy….$1,000,000 a year and you don’t have to work that hard.

  7. The medical field is no better, you have to put up with a lot of gross stuff there also.

  8. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$…

  9. for the same reason that someone would want to become a doctor. so what if they have to cut someone open to see their yucky organs? its just what theyre interested in! im glad that theres people out there like that. for me, braces are just giving me a ‘better smile,’ its correcting my overbite so i dont get headaches and jaw pains so often. geeze, youre an idiot.

  10. It is like any other medical speciality – it’s right for some people and not for others.
Why would you be a urologist or a podiatrist or an obgyn?
As for it’s importance – if you had an infected tooth, TMJ, or another serious tooth problem you’d appreciate just how important this speciality is.

  11. My children were born with a dental condition that required braces in order to ever have their own permanent teeth. This had to be done with surgery attaching brackets and chains on their teeth then pulling them in. Without this wonderful man who was their orthodontist my children would probably have dentures. Today they have the most amazing smiles. Ok before you say $$$$$$$ Let me tell you that my children were on a program from the government that is suppose to pay for what our insurance didn’t. For my son who is the oldest little did I know that this program is a royal pain for Doctor’s to get their money. He never once told us that he struggled to get paid for my son’s treatment. So when my daughter came along he treated her for 8 years for free. I asked him why he treated her for free because it wasn’t until she got her braces off that we found out that he had not turned in one of her bills to the state. His answer was cause I love her and felt that God wanted me to take care of her and make sure she had the best chance she could to have a healthy smile. For me I thank God everyday that this man became an orthodontist. So I will say with my whole heart not all dentists, orthodontists etc are in it for the money.
