I have braces, and the parts where the rubber bands hook on constantly give me terrible canker sores… After a while they heal up and dont hurt anymore, but I’ll still have like inch + long gashes in my mouth that dont heal for a while? Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks.

  1. You have to let them heal on their own. Go to your dentist and get wax to put over the problem areas on your braces. I usually wore mine during the night time when I did not have to worry about people seeing me with huge chunks of white stuff on my teeth. If it you want to wear it during the day because they hurt really badly, just use a small amount. This stuff works wonders on preventing canker sores.
P.s. It is safe to swallow (if you happen to do it at night).

  2. Well you can prevent the sores from occurring by using the wax on the areas where the metal rubs against your mouth. Also, try using Orajel Antiseptic Mouth Sore Rinse. It really works, clears them up really quickly.
Don’t worry what the person above me said. Most likely, they are not cold sores. Cold sores occur on the OUTSIDE of the mouth, usually near the edges of the lips or directly on the lips. You can tell if they are canker sores by looking at them and seeing if the edges of them are raised and red, and open sore part is white. It’s a common mistake for people to mix up cold sores and canker sores, or to think that both of them are caused by the Herpes complex, while it is only the cold sores that are caused by the Herpes complex.

  3. You need to buy some dental wax and place it on the area of the braces that are cutting you. It works great.

  4. try coating these areas on your braces with vaseline, this sould help

  5. I don’t believe what you have are cankor sores. I think they are mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers are caused by the herpes virus but not the one that causes the STD. This virus lives in your body even when you are symptom free. It manifests itself when you get a little nick or cut in your mouth from your braces. For pain, mix 1/2 Benadry and 1/2 Maalox and swish and spit. It takes the pain right out. Also, throw out that toothbrush as soon as they go away and get a new one. Herpes lives in your toothbrush too.
