Also when you have a tightening what happens?

Hi there
I am at the end of the orthodontic road… so here goes: your first appt. is usually a consult. The doctor will tell you what your issues are, e.g. overcrowding, over/under bite, spaces to close, and such. They should also take an x-ray to see the full picture/how your roots are, etc. Before you get your braces on, you will most likely have to wear spacers – they are little plastic pieces that create spaces in the back of your mouth so that there is room for metal bands. For me it was about 4 weeks of spacers and yes, it does hurt a bit because your teeth are starting to move. Sometimes (as in my case) you don’t get your braces on top and bottom at the same time. First, I’ve had them on top only and about 6 mo. later on the bottom as well. When you go for your regular visits/tightening it’s not that bad at first, then it gets worse at night/or after a few hours, but some Advil will take care of that. When you first get your braces on, eating might be somewhat frustrating because food gets stuck everywhere and you will want to brush all the time to get it out. Some foods you might want to say goodbye to for a while (crunchy, sticky stuff).
I hope it goes well for you! Good luck!
well, I felt terrible and I hated the way I looked, everything hurted me, I couldn’t eat…. but now I am used to it and it doesn’t bother anymore. It’s hard to start, but it gets better. But anyway, I still can’t wait to take it off. If you see my questions, you’ll see what people told me when I put that on…
I am going to be truthful, it hurts for a few days. But if you take Advil of Tylenol or some sort of painkiller, it really helps. Good luck getting your braces on, I hope it goes well!
Oh wow, the memories. I remember having my mouth open forever while they glued the braces on and put the wires through. Right after I got them on, I didn’t really feel a thing, but after about an hour, I felt the pain. My teeth were very tender. It hurt to bite down, but the pain only lasted for a few days. When you go to have then tightened, you might feel some discomfort, but just for a while. The pain is not ongoing from the time you get them on, until they take them off. It does hurt to wear the rubber bands and sometimes if they change the wire. Other than that, it is not that bad. Good Luck.
