  1. These other answers are wrong. After 4 years of undergrad, you go to dental school for 2 years. Then (if you pass the exam) you are a general dentist. If you want to specialize in something (like orthodontics) it is an additional 2 years of school. So a total of 8 years after high school.


  2. 4 years undergrad
    4 years dental school
    2-3 years post-dental school training in orthodontics
    So about 11 years post-high school.
    And, well, if you go through all this training, you will be an orthodontist. You will either run your own practice, find a partner (either newly graduated or an established orthodontist or group of orthodontists), or they may be opportunities for you in large hospital systems, for example many of the larger VA hospitals have dental clinics which employ dentists and orthodontists.


  3. after 4 years of undergrad, you need to go to medical school for 4 more years, then do about 3-7 years of residency after that. yeah..you could say it’s ALOT of schooling.
