I am on my second retainer and don’t think my teeth look any different. It’s a little disappointing. How long does it take for your teeth to start looking straighter?

Depends on how complex the case is. If you are considered an Express case (less than 10 aligners total), then usually within the first 3 trays. Intermediate case (less than 20 aligners), then usually around 5-6. Comprehensive case (20 or more), then can be up to the 8-9 trays. It’s working the whole time, just might not be able to visually see the difference immediately
.
retainer doesnt actually allign teeth or straighten it, in some cases it closes space but for minimal result…the purpose of a retainer is to retain the progress that the bracket or braces had made.
and for how long it depends on the case but u could see the deveplopment in a month but the process for you to complete the treatment could take a year or 2 depending also for the braces that is installed.
if u want a short term appliance with maximun effect try to suggest to ur dentist a selfligating bracets.
