How Do I Stop My Braces From Rubbing Up Against My Cheeks?

I have had braces since august and it is now June. This hasn’t happened before but all of the sudden they are rubbing up against my cheeks. It doesn’t really hurt very bad, but I’m losing a lot of ‘mouth’. There are large crevices and indents in my cheeks and it’s getting worse. I’ve tried wax and Origel but it doesn’t stop it. HELP!

  1. Salt water rinses often are the way to go.
Keep using the wax, esp at night when you sleep.
Also ask your ortho about “bumpers” the next time you are in if it keeps it up. It’s a clear piece of material (kinda like the air tubing in aquariums) that goes over the brackets and wires and can make things a little easier for you. Things are moving and that’s why it’s bothering you when it never has before. Stick it out. This too shall pass.

  2. Your orthodontist should have given you wax. If you are out you can call your orthodontist or you can pick up some dental wax from walmart, target, cvs and a lot of stores. Walmart is cheaper than cvs. Remember a little goes a long way. I have the herbst appliance in my mouth. I got it in three days ago. The orthodontist gave me these cotton roles to keep the bars from rubbing. I don’t know if it will help you though, but you can always ask.

  3. Call your orthodontist! And meanwhile, rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup water).

  4. your orthodontist office should provide you ortho wax, which works great, free of charge

  5. they give you wax to put on your braces if that happens…
