Have You Ever Worn The Invisalign Braces?

I’d like to get my teeth straightened, but since I’m 51, I think the tin grin path is long past. I’d like to try the invisalign, but would hate to invest $3 grand into them just to find out that I can’t tolerate the pain. Any suggestions?

  1. I am in the middle of Invisalign treatment right now. To be honest, 3 grand might be a bit of an underestimate depending on where you live, a lot of an underestimate in other areas. They are usually more expensive than the going rate for traditional braces in your area. Also, not everyone is a candidate, Invisalign does best with small tipping and rotations of teeth of people who already have basically ideal occlusion. You would have to be evaluated by an orthodontist. As far as pain – each time you get a new tray (every 2 weeks) it hurts when you put it in for a while, not a sharp pain just a soreness. And the teeth that are being moved might be sore when you try to eat anything hard for the first several days of each tray. But after that it’s not painful at all. If you are not a candidate for Invisalign there are a couple other ways to go that are less noticable than traditional braces. There is a system called “Damon brackets” and they are white, there are ceramic white brackets for traditional braces (however they bond very strongly to teeth and often crumble when being removed or sometimes take enamel off with them), and there are lingual (tongue side of your teeth) systems – however not many orthodontists with do lingual braces and if you find one who will it will likely be more expensive than traditional braces and also lingual braces tend to impair speech more pronounced and longer than traditional braces and also often injur the tongue.
And as far as being 51 years young, I’ve seen patients in their 80′s getting braces. You are never to old to get that perfect smile :)
