I heard Ameriplan gives a discount but only if a dentist does the braces, not an orthodontist. Who would get braces from a dentist?

  1. I had a tooth pulled a few years ago and a periodontist gave me a price quote of over $1,000 while a dentist charged me around $200. So I think orthodontists and periodontists are “specialized” dentists that charge more for whatever they do.
All the dental insurance plans I’ve researched appear to be more like savings plans than insurance. The way they only pay a certain percentage of certain procedures and cap the limit they’ll pay makes it hard to get more value out of it than you paid into it.
So in conclusion I’d say there is no cheap way to get braces unless you can find some kind of orthodontic school deal where a student works on you instead of an orthodontist.

  2. Only an orthodontist does braces…a general dentist does different….fillings and such….i don’t believe they do braces…they be called an orthodontist.haha
